Ernie Gross graduated from Pratt Institute in 1971 with a B.S. in Industrial
Design. Ernie Gross Designs was established as a home business in 1975.
As business expanded, Ernie purchased the five-story historic McClung warehouse
building on West Jackson Avenue in downtown Knoxville. |

After many years of growth and success, tragedy struck.
In February 2007, one of the largest fires in Knoxville's history began in an adjacent
warehouse. The fire quickly spread and consumed Ernie's building.
With the support of other local woodworkers and the community at large, operations
continued in a temporary location for the next year
while Ernie planned and built his new shop. |
In March 2008, Ernie Gross Designs moved into its new location
in Anderson County, Tennessee. Ernie designed the new shop as a green construction
project including a wood-burning furnace that warms the building with radiant
heat. The new building is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, a wealth
of natural light and is nestled in a rural valley surrounded by brooks, woods
and mountains. |
